Agave ovatifolia, known as Whale’s Tongue Agave, is a striking ornamental species from Nuevo León, Mexico. Its wide, rounded leaves and high cold tolerance (down to 5–10°F) have made it a favorite in landscaping worldwide, from the U.S. to Europe and North Africa. While slow to mature, it is highly valued for its beauty, adaptability, and versatile uses, including alcohol, biofuels, fiber, and carbon capture.

- Climate Observations
- Established plants can live 5–120°F. Young plants under one year should be kept above 25°F and below 105°F. In coastal California, a 3-gallon plant set out at the start of the rainy season can establish a dry-farmed crop. In desert California and the Central Valley, a 5-gallon plant is recommended for rainy season planting to ensure establishment. Mature plants withstand heavy winds and extreme heat, as well as light snow, frost, and hail.

Agave Ovatifolia is a beautiful large sized agave that has very defined leaves and is a stunning light blue color. It is a wonderful agave to farm or use in your landscape. It has an incredible array of uses and is a very strong agave, withstanding lots of different climates and temperatures.
